LOT Polish Airlines' past

On December 29, 1928, the Polish government dissolved two local airlines, Aeroflot and Aero, to create the LOT Polish Airline. With the inaugural international flight for Vienna taking place on August 2, 1929, it began offering services on January 1 of that year. The airline's base was initially at Pole Mokotowskie Airport, but it was later moved to Warsaw Okecie Airport.

After a protracted period of unrest and war, LOT Polish Airlines started obtaining several Boeing aircraft in April 1989 and expanded its operations to western Europe. In 1992, it moved onto becoming a joint stock corporation. Greater network extensions were the consequence of ongoing improvement efforts. The airline recorded its highest annual passenger volume of 3 million in 2001 with the start of the new millennium. In order to handle its sizable fleet, the Warsaw Chopin Airport was rebuilt after that. The airline became the fourteenth member of the Star Alliance in 2003.
